Land of the long white cloud ...... pfffft!

Volcanoes in elevated states of unrest ... torrential rain and flooding in Australia and in Mozambique ... extreme cold and snow in the UK .... power outages in South Africa
.... and what are we having here in Aux?

Glorious summer weather!

Land of the long white cloud ..... pffft ..... they don’t know WHAT they’re talking about!
Blue skies, sunshine and a full moon are the order of the day!

Auckland Anniversary Day, which was celebrated yesterday, was NO exception. It was magnificent. Half of Auckland moved out to their baches and the other half of New Zealand moved in! I participated in a huge market in Mission Bay .... got to see all my craft market buddies AND an air show AND ate Churros and French Crepes!
Yum!

The gorgeous photos I’ve been getting of the full moon bought to mind an interesting individual called  "The Moon Man”, aka Ken Ring who gets himself a lot of media attention. He’s a self-proclaimed weather guru who uses the Lunar Cycle to predict the weather .... and earthquakes ..... a YEAR in advance!

Some say his science is bogus but plenty of people swear by it.

Every year since 1999 he’s published an Almanac predicting on a day to day basis what the weather is going to do here in NZ.  He added an Australian Almanac in 2006 and an Almanac for Ireland in 2010.  His methods are NOT supported by mainstream science and often stir up controversy.

Despite all this, his New Zealand Almanac is amongst the Top Ten Selling Non-Fiction books most years.  Hmmmm ...... does that mean New Zealanders are more gullible than most, or that Ken Ring’s weather forecasts are pretty accurate?

He also predicts earthquakes based on the position of the moon. On his website he says that when the moon (in particular the new moon) is at perigee (closest to the earth) it may affect the Earth's mantle and alter the magnetic field. On 3 September 2010, on a weekly radio show he hosts, he stated on air that there would be floods, winds, snow and an earthquake in South Island sometime during the following week.

Early morning sun-rise
That very next morning a 7.1 earthquake hit Christchurch. It was my first experience of a major earthquake hitting the country.  As fate would have it, it was also the first weekend my middle lemming was visiting Christchurch with her boyfriend.

I can remember posting a status on FB that the middle lemming had experienced two life events that I hadn’t .... she’d flown in a hot-air balloon over the Serengeti (a wish that’s STILL on my Bucket List) AND she’d lived through an earthquake.  I still don’t think I’ll add that experience to my Bucket List.

Interestingly enough Ken Ring also predicted the next deadly earthquake. He’d stated on his website that South Island would once again be susceptible to a large quake. The moon would be in it’s closest fly-past to earth for 2011 in March of that year.  On 14 February he tweeted "Potential earthquake time for the planet between 15th–25th, especially 18th for Christchurch, +/- about 3 days."

A deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch on 22 February.

I’m intrigued.  Despite the accuracy of some of his predictions Ken Ring is NOT taken seriously by any scientist, geologist or seismologist.  His predictions are considered to be imprecise, inconsistent and vaguely worded, and his methods blatantly unscientific.
Killing the reindeer!
And yet ..... so many people still buy his Almanac!
Go figure.

I have POWER ... in abundance!!

How can you not LOVE mornings like this!!

St. Heliers Bay .... MY bay!!
Grrrrrrr ..... my morning didn’t get off to as good a start as what it normally does ... despite the glorious blue skies and sunshine!!!  My system crashed ..... YIKES ...... not a good thing for one who is addicted to .... yes ... addicted to .....  her connection to the big wide world out there!!  That’s what happens when you live at the arse end of the world .... you need this funky little collection of gizmos and gadgets to keep you CONNECTED!

I moped off for my ramble having left it trying to recover itself .... not knowing what I was going to come back to ......

Kohi Beach ... the next bay along
.... but miracles do happen ... it had recovered whatever it had apparently lost and was ready and raring to go.

I'm chatting to the ladies in the picture below and she's wanting her
ball thrown!!
I did wonder if it crashed in sympathy with Steve Jobs death this morning ... he was still so young .... and has left an amazing mark on our world.  He was once quoted as saying “I want to put a ding in the universe” ..... wow ... he sure has done that .... there can’t be many people who don’t own or haven’t owned an Apple product ... and I’ve added the “haven’t owned” especially for my oldest lemming as he is very anti-Apple but HAS owned an iPod ... hmmmm!   RIP Steve Jobs .... your visionary outlook will be sorely missed.  I, for one, love Apple products and I wouldn’t be without my iPhone!

Rosemary, Carol and Vi
My ramble took longer than expected today ... I got delayed chatting on the beach to some of my other dog walking buddies ..... they sit on the bench most days and catch up with the news of the world .... and of course, rugby is a hot topic at the moment!!  There’s so much excitement with the build-up to the Quarter Finals this weekend ... everyone has their own opinion of who’s going to win ... and why!  Flags are out in abundance and I’ve been so impressed at the number of Welsh flags I’ve seen ... which brings me to an interesting thought ......

How come if RWC is happening right here in NZ and all of the flags of all 20 countries are being displayed here, there and everywhere .... are people still unsure of which flag belongs to which country?  A mother in my coffee haunt today informed her friend that I had an Irish flag in my backpack .... IRISH .... with a Welsh DRAGON on it!

Contrary to the popular belief of SOME of my Kiwi friends .... and a CERTAIN South African friend, the only teams heading home after the matches in Wellington this weekend will be Ireland and Aus!!  My Bokke will be taking on the Flightless Fowls in the Semi-Final .... and then the nation .... the New Zealand one that is ..... will be in mourning ...

SHUCKS .... I hope that doesn’t mean I won’t be able to get my daily fix .....

Life has MAGIC ..... I have POWER .... in abundance  ... and OH YES, dreams DO come TRUE!!
Back to the beach for lunch today  .... it was just too beautiful to resist!

Rebel incarnate!!

My hound .... doing what she does best ... retrieving logs ... and "Mad Hatter" Bella!!

CHANGE requires COURAGE .... 3 words .... so simple but with such depth .... sometimes we get so caught up in doing what’s expected of us ... in worrying about everyone else’s needs ..... in doing what’s ‘RIGHT’ .... that we completely lose track of who we are and what brings us joy!  We’re all guilty of it .... not just me .....

I loved my note from the universe today .... it’s brilliant and so pertinent to the thought of just doing what brings us joy .... it goes something like this

Picture if you will, Carol, the disciplinarian who micro-manages every step in their very careful dance with life .... and then picture the hooligan whose only disciplines are daydreaming and showing up. Now .... who do you think is most likely to be heard whoo-hoo'ing from the top of their lungs as they cruise along some winding mountain road, top down, shades up, singing "I Did It My Way"?

Whoo-hoo! The Universe
Love your singing voice, Carol... and that legendary rebel yell.

I had to chuckle .... it made so much sense given how I’d been thinking this morning.  The other part that made me chuckle was the vision of me cruising down some winding mountain road with the top down ... that I can SO picture ... my friends in SA and my family know just how much I loved my little blue MG .... and especially driving it with the top down .... rebel incarnate .... oh yes!!!
Gav met me on the beach for coffee and got roped in to throwing
sticks for the mob!

I’ve been doing lots of visualisation recently ..... something to do with a certain tournament that’s happening here right now .... the more I visualise, the better both my teams are playing ... so I’m going to keep right on visualising ..... Wales beating Ireland .... (sorry Cheryltjie) .... and SA beating Aus.  I’m having a little trouble with the Wales beating Ireland one because Ireland are just playing out of their socks ..... sad to say I don’t seem to be able to visualise the Flightless Fowls doing so well either ........ maybe it’s something to do with the delectable Dan Carter being out of the team.

As with all tournaments of this nature though anything can happen .... I’ll just visualise, visualise ... and visualise some more .... and enjoy all the rugby ...... and the eye candy, of course!

The grey days have been replaced with sunshine today so I took ‘Double-Trouble’ to the beach .... my hound and Bella that is ..... sans Bella’s human .....

Bella loves a walk as much as my hound does .... except that it has to be done at Bella’s pace ...... she doesn’t respond well to walking to heel and by the time we reached the beach my one arm was infinitely longer than the other.

You would assume that 2 chocolate Labradors wouldn’t be too much trouble on the beach .... after all Labradors are laid-back ...... water-loving,  friendly creatures ..... obedient most of the time ...  yes ....  most of the time.   Hmmmm ..... but then you come across Bella .... she’s the ‘ADD’ of Labradors ........ frenetic .... fast-moving ..... easily distracted ...... hare-brained ...... an agile will-o’-the-wisp "Mad Hatter" of the Labrador world!  The sunshine meant lots of hounds on the beach to play with, so she raced her little cotton socks off up and down the beach and in and out the waves .......... going home was a breeze compared to coming down to the beach .......

So now I’m back home and working on this Courage and Change thingy ..... bright ideas have been flowing in abundance the last day or so .... and not just from me .... so I’m trying to turn these marvellous visions into something tangible ...... I can see them in my mind but they’re not always that easy to adapt to the physical ..... but I’m getting there .... oh YES .... I'm getting there!
In her eyes nothing is IMPOSSIBLE ..... now that's how I need to think!!
