It’s FRIDAY!
Time for the hooligan hounds of St. Heliers to make mischief on the beach!
I’m not sure WHO’s up to being the MOST mischievous though
... the hounds or my mate Carol.
She had a bee in her bonnet today about the Summer Beach Times .... or lack of them if the absence of signage on our beach is to be believed.
Because there’s no signage on our beach and because there’s a lack of clarity as to WHEN the new times are to be implemented, she’s choosing to be a rebel.
I’m ALWAYS a rebel where the hounds and the beach are concerned, so pushing the beach time restraints to their maximum is something I’m completely comfortable with.
It’s fortuitous that the Dog Warden chose NOT to visit our beach today. I’ve had several run-ins with him in the past but it was Carol that was in the mood for a fight with him today.
The hounds couldn’t care less.
There are rugby balls that need to be kicked and cabers that need to be tossed.
This is THEIR time and they know it.
Sam did his usual trick of wanting to join me in stalking the Kingfishers.
He doesn’t understand that the Kingfishers don’t DO hounds
.... certainly not exuberantly bouncy ones like him.
They tolerate the chocolate hound but only just.
She continued with her systematic destruction of the beach whilst Carol and the middle lemming cajoled Sam into staying with them. I headed onto the mudflats in search of Trevor the Kingfisher.
He didn’t disappoint. He was having a merry old time of catching crabs for breakfast and seemed oblivious to everything happening around him. Even the Skua gliding past just above his head didn’t distract him.
He did eventually spot me but only after I’d snuck up to within a few metres of him. His curiosity compelled him to stay and I snapped some gorgeous shots.
Shots like this force me to set the bar higher. Catching him in flight or snapping up a crab is my new goal. Not sure how I’m going to accomplish that but I’m sure a plan will come to mind!
And lastly, I have so enjoyed all the hilarity and ragging that has accompanied the giraffe riddle on FB. I didn’t realise I had SO many “blonde” friends!
