This is how you get the hound to look at the camera - put the rugby ball on your head! |

I LOVE chocolate cake and I bake a really MEAN one! It’s light, very chocolatey and a FIRM family favourite .... as long as I don’t put fresh cream in the filling. The youngest lemming doesn’t DO fresh cream. His topping/filling of choice is butter icing or water icing .... ho hum.
My filling of choice is fresh cream with fresh berries in it or chocolate bits and then drench the whole cake in melted chocolate ... it’s sinful but oh SO YUMMY.
This is why I wanted her to look at the camera! |
Today I have to bake a chocolate cake AND make a lemon tart. That’s not unusual in itself but it IS unusual to have to bake TWO different cakes on the same day when neither is for the family’s consumption!
I was at a loss as to what to give Dave (Cayl’s long-term boyfriend) for his birthday this year. Finances are tight so an expensive gift was out of the question. What on earth could I give him that would have meaning .... cause we DO love him .... but not cost a lot?
I came up with an ingenious solution. Dave LOVES chocolate cake .... especially MY chocolate cake .... so I gave him a VOUCHER for 1 chocolate cake a month for the entire year. All he has to do is give me a day or so’s notice and I’ll bake him a cake! Today I have to bake him his second chocolate cake!
How cool is that!
I have to add ... this voucher idea sure caused a bit of controversy amongst my own lemmings. What’s so special about Dave that he gets chocolate cake for a year, I was asked.
Can see I’m going to have to use this voucher idea again for their birthdays ....
Oh yes ... the lemon tart is for a lingerie party that I’m going to at Julia’s. At least I’ll get a bite of that one.
The hound bit of a little MORE than she could chew with a log on the beach this morning.
It was HEAVY .... way too heavy for her to carry OR for me to throw!
Protecting THE log. |
Thank goodness I’d been accompanied by several lemmings on my ramble today. The adopted male lemming practised tossing the caber and was able to hurl it quite a distance for her. We had to make her sit and wait whilst he tossed it though. There was always the possibility it could land on her head .... and I’d have had squashed hound to take home ... not a good visual.
Telling everyone about THE log. |
She dug mega trenches to bury it in cause she couldn’t carry it, and then let everyone within hearing distance know that she’d found a GINORMOUS log on the beach and wanted to take it home. That WASN’T happening cause she has a MEAN human. She told EVERYONE that too!
I struggle NOT to laugh when it’s time to LEAVE the log. She knows what she SHOULD do but struggles with indecision. That log is SO tempting! She darts between the log and the ball .... one part of her wants to LISTEN and PLEASE me but the other part WANTS that log.
She’s not a Labrador for nothing though and the desire to PLEASE wins EVERY time!
