I LOVE rainbows .... yep, I think I’ve said that before ... and the most gorgeous rainbow filled my sky this morning just before we left on our ramble! Two gorgeous rainbows in fact .... displaying their magical bands of colour right across my bay .... too glorious for words!
Early morning reflections from my bedroom window |
It’s a good omen when the morning starts with something SO beautiful. I also know from seeing the rainbow that the sun’s VISIBLY visiting my world this morning, it’s not hidden behind a bank of clouds!
An interesting fact about rainbows that you might not know ....a dim second rainbow is often present outside the first bow and the colours on this second rainbow are ALWAYS inverted ... blue on the outside, red on the inside. Don’t take my word for it ~ the next time you see a double rainbow, verify that for yourself!
More awesome reflections .... |
Another thing I LOVE are reflections ... I guess that makes sense as rainbows are caused by reflections ... but it’s the mirror like reflections in the bay that caught my eye today .... they’re amazing! When the tide’s out and the ocean’s like a sheet of glass I feel I’m in another world .... everything is mirrored back at me in absolute clarity ... it’s a photographer’s paradise and I milk it for all that it’s worth.
Those friendly treat-eating seagulls make exquisite models when I’m capturing reflections.
I forgot my bag of treats this morning but it didn’t matter, they all preened and posed as if they were born for it.
Bella ... and Chocolat |
Not so the hounds. Bouncy Bella - my name for her and it’s very apt ... bounces from one grain of sand to the next. The gulls are fair game for her and many photo opportunities went AWOL as Bouncy Bella charged through the seagull flotilla ... enthusiastically encouraged by my eldest lemming. He who NO likes seagulls!
The hounds were joined on the beach by a much smaller, much noisier furry friend who managed to keep Bella corralled in the sea!! My hound completely ignored this small upstart but not Bella .... she cowered in the waves as this precocious youngster bossed her around .... it was hilarious to watch!
Bella .... being held captive in the water |
Nico arrived to join in the fun - he’s a 4 month old Miniature Schnauzer who the hound and I see most mornings. Bella suddenly found her spunk and charged out the water snarling and snapping at them both. Time to beat a hasty retreat off the beach and head home!
A sandy Bella ... she's been rolling in the sand. |
Rainbows remind me to hold onto these moments of fun, joy and beauty ... they nourish my soul, they remind me of why I ramble on a daily basis ... they reinforce for me that our world is a beautiful place. Rainbow reminders bring a kaleidoscope of colour to the days that don’t have any ... the black and white days when the sun forgets how to shine.
