Wykipedia defines ‘Dys-func-tion-al’ as
... not operating normally or properly
... deviating from the norms of social behaviour in a way regarded as bad

Hmmm ... I have a little journal that’s titled “My DYSFUNCTIONAL journal for chronicling my immeasurably fascinating dysfunctions, neuroses, emotions etal ........ because the only difference between me and the rest of the population is that I ACKNOWLEDGE how crazy I am and they’re all in mind-numbing denial.”
Blue skies at Waiatarua on Friday |
Yes, it's a LONG title. It was given to me by my equally dysfunctional friend who understands all too well just how insane we all are.
.... and amazing reflections! |
I don’t necessarily agree with the definition of dysfunctional. Just because we don’t operate normally or properly doesn’t dictate that we’re dysfunctional. Who’s definition of ‘normal’ are we using in any event .... society’s? .... ie “the rest of the population that are in mind-numbing denial”?
The more I see and read about what’s happening in this world of ours, the more convinced I am that it’s the world that’s insane, not I.
I even had great reflections at the pond ... |
Maybe I just see things through different eyes .... or have more blonde moments than what I realise.
... and would have had a marvelous pic if he'd fallen in!! It was close! |
I thought my eyes were deceiving me a week or two ago when I saw a billboard in the centre of Auckland advertising the Heineken Open, a tennis tournament that was won by David Ferrer this last Saturday. This particular tournament is Men only as the Womens tournament was played here the week before.
The billboard had the usual bumf advertising the tournament and in
big bold bright green letters it stated
“HEINEKEN OPEN .... TENNIS - with BALLS!!”
Shadow's taken to this swimming lark like a fish to water! |
Now that’s my kind of humour ... but I do wonder how many other people saw it and registered the play on words. I asked around amongst my friends and acquaintances and very few of them had seen the billboard, let alone recognised the pun.
People saw, but they didn’t really see.
The table has become her jungle gym. |
It brings to mind a quote by Marcel Proust:
“The voyage of discovery is NOT in SEEKING new landscapes but in having NEW eyes.”
Maybe that’s what the world needs .... a NEW way of looking at things.
... and she's taken over the hound's bed. |
We’ve had days and days and days of glorious weather in Auckland. It’s been blue skies, golden sunshine, cotton wool clouds and bodies on beaches .... this is how summer’s MEANT to be. Even Weather Watch agrees. According to them NZ’s AVERAGE summers are “ juuuust right” ... plenty of sun, plenty of heat but some rain too ... to keep things alive!
Oh yes .... it's that manic look again. |
We’re too far north of Antarctica to have brutal winters and too far south of the tropics to have the extreme heat that Australia has been experiencing. I think Aussie can keep their 45 degree heatwave .... our supposedly “average” summer is pretty darn good.
It’s HOT ... and I don’t mean just the weather.
Yep .... she's got the hound sorted |

The glorious weather we've been having this weekend. |
