Gosh - the seagulls LOVE dog pellets ... who would have guessed! They pose for photos beautifully if I throw them pellets ... see, even seagulls can be taught to do tricks! The hound gets a bit irked - she has to sit still and watch them eating HER treats! It got a bit much for her after a while and she BARKED ... one LOUD deep bark .... and the seagulls scarpered!! I guess I’d got
enough photos by that stage and she did make me SMILE ... it was almost as if she was saying ‘ENOUGH NOW’!
What a change in the weather! The end of daylight saving yesterday and the weather turned foul! Heavy cloud is covering my world - at the time of writing this my city is lost in the mist, Sky Tower completely obscured from view.
Inclement weather makes no difference to the hound though ... she’s still ready and raring to go at 6.30 in the morning ... ball in mouth .... the look says it all.
The one advantage of the end of daylight saving is that my ramble no longer starts in the dark. We ventured down to Ladies Bay this morning - much easier to descend the stairs when you can
see where you’re going. The hounds were delighted - mine because it’s always deep enough to swim there, regardless of the tide and Indy, because he knows he’ll find munchies in the sand.
Julia didn’t realise that hounds have brakes. I think it’s something a lot of people aren’t aware of ... a hound’s tail is a brake. A tail’s primary function of course, is to
wag - wagging communicates emotion, all emotions, not just happiness. It can be an indication of agitation, annoyance or anger as well. Just because a hound’s wagging it’s tail, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily happy ... but I digress. My hound’s tail is also a brake .... she doesn’t wear a 'gentle leader' like Indy and will respond most of the time to my command to wait, which she understands to mean slow down. Occasionally though she pushes the boundaries like all adolescents do ... and I have to grab the ‘brake’ to slow her down ... it’s incredibly effective.
Michelle, you’ll be pleased to hear that I met your friends on the beach this morning. They emailed me last week to say they were staying in St. Heliers till Thursday so I replied saying I’m on the beach every morning ..... just look for the blonde girl with the chocolate hound carrying logs or a rugby ball, the hound that is! There aren’t many bodies on the beach at that time in the morning so I wasn’t difficult to spot. It was lovely to meet them and I wish them lots of happiness in this great big adventure they’re undertaking ... it takes courage to move half way around the world!
They say things happen in 3's ... Carol had someone drive into her car whilst crossing Harbour Bridge on Friday - the car’s still driveable but needs to be repaired. She then damaged her knee whilst participating in a half-marathon on Sunday - not so sure how easily repairable the body is. The last straw was finding our coffee haunt had RUN OUT of coffee beans this morning!! I think, from Carol’s perspective, no coffee beans was the worst of the 3!
